I’ve gone into detail about what I personally did to treat my keloids in the links below. I’ve also included my email and contact information below and I’m happy to answer any questions. If you find this website helpful, please contribute by sharing your keloid experience. Even if you haven’t started treatment, or are currently undergoing treatment, others would like to hear from you.

My Keloid Journey Explained

I didn’t know what a keloid scar was when the first one appeared on my chest at age fifteen. I was just starting to deal with acne, and the small raised scar barely registered. I ignored it the way teenage boys ignore most things.

But over the next few years, more appeared. Slowly at first, then with more frequency. By the time I was twenty, the count had grown to over ten: on my chest, shoulders and even my jawline. They were raised, discolored, itchy, and painful. I was becoming increasingly self-conscious, and I realized if I didn’t find a permanent solution, they would just keep growing in number and size.

I made an appointment with a dermatologist specifically for my keloids. I expected answers and a long term treatment plan. I got a shrug.

A single 10mg/mL steroid injection was about the only tool they had to offer. Beyond that, I would just have to live with them. Could we prevent them from growing? Not much to be done. Could we prevent new ones from forming? No advice there either.

I left discouraged but went ahead with the shots. There was some relief from the pain and itching and a tiny decrease in size, but within two months the keloids had returned to their original size. I was back to square one and depressed.

What followed was lots of trial and error. Scar sheets, scar creams, cryotherapy, more steroid shots, laser treatments, and even chemotherapy injections.

Over time, I found the right combination of treatments that substantially reduced the size, coloration, and pain of my existing keloids. More importantly, I learned how to prevent new keloids from forming.

I built keloidjournal.com because this resource didn’t exist when I needed it. Everything I learned from living with keloids, every treatment I tried, every failed product, every topic I researched is going to be here.

My mission is to help you prevent new keloid scars from forming, substantially flatten the ones you have, and restore your skin to its natural color.
